Frequently Asked Questions
For the Bride: We're here to be Your Security Net
How is ALBA different from sites like The Knot or WeddingWire?
Most wedding directories are "pay-to-play." If a vendor pays for an ad, they get listed—regardless of their legal status. ALBA is a professional vetting alliance. We don’t sell ad space; we verify credentials. Every artist on our registry has been manually audited for a state license, $1M+ liability insurance, and a clean professional record.
Why does it matter if my artist is "Licensed & Insured"?
In many states, providing hair and makeup services for compensation without a license is illegal. Furthermore, without professional liability insurance, you (the bride) or the venue could be held responsible for accidents or injuries. ALBA ensures your artist is a legitimate business owner, not a hobbyist.
What happens if an ALBA artist "ghosts" me or doesn't show up?
ALBA has a zero-tolerance policy for unprofessional conduct. While we are an association and not the service provider, all members sign a binding Code of Ethics regarding reliability. If a member fails to meet our professional standards, their accreditation is revoked, and we assist brides in our registry by connecting them with available emergency backup artists within the Alliance.
Does it cost anything for a bride to use the ALBA registry?
No. Our registry is a free public service to help brides, planners, and venues find the "Gold Standard" of beauty professionals in their area.

For the Artist: The Professional Standard
What are the requirements to join ALBA USA?
To carry the ALBA Seal, an artist must prove they are a "Gold Standard" professional. Our mandatory vetting includes:
-
Legal Credentials: Active Professional License (Cosmetology or Esthetics) and SOS Business "Good Standing."
-
Liability Protection: A Certificate of Insurance (COI) with a $1M minimum.
-
Continuous Mastery: Agreement to complete 12 hours of ALBA-approved Continuing Education (CE) annually (3 hours per quarter) to stay ahead of industry trends and laws.
-
Safety Verification: Submission to a Bi-Annual Kit Audit to ensure sanitation protocols and product integrity meet medical-grade standards.
-
Ethics: A signed pledge to the ALBA Code of Professional Conduct.
I’m a talented artist with years of experience, but I’m not licensed. Can I join?
ALBA was founded specifically to champion the legal professional. While we respect artistry of all kinds, our mission is to uphold state regulatory standards. We cannot admit or verify any artist who is not currently in compliance with their state’s licensing laws.
How does ALBA help me get more bookings?
We act as your advocate. We work directly with luxury venues and high-end wedding planners to educate them on the risks of hiring unvetted artists. By being ALBA-certified, you are placed on a "shortlist" for vendors who prioritize safety and professionalism, helping you stand out in a crowded market.
Is there a fee to apply?
Yes. There is a one-time vetting and setup fee of $75. This fee is essential for maintaining our high standards and includes:
-
Manual Verification: Our Ethics Committee manually audits your state license, $1M liability insurance, and Secretary of State business standing.
-
Directory Page Creation: Upon approval, this fee covers the professional setup of your dedicated ALBA Directory Page. This page serves as your "Verified Resume" for brides and planners to find and book you directly.
-
Onboarding: Integration into our system for tracking your Quarterly Continuing Education (CE) and scheduling your Bi-Annual Kit Audits.
Once your application is approved and your credentials are verified, you will choose the membership tier that best fits your business goals.
